چکیده

Eosinophilic enteritis is a rare disease characterized by tissue eosinophilia, which can affect different layers of bowel wall. Normally, the disease presents as colicky abdominal pain, and rarely as an acute intestinal obstruction or perforation. In this paper, we report a case of eosinophilic enteritis, hitherto unreported, presenting as an ileal obstruction, and followed by jejunal bleeding, which was visualized by capsule endoscopy. A 62-year-old man received a 15 cm single segmental ileal resection at a point 50 cm from the IC valve due to symptoms of obstruction, which were diagnosed as eosinophilic enteritis. Seventeen days after operation, intermittent abdominal pain occurred again, and subsided upon 30 mg per day treatment with prednisolone. Fourteen days after this pain attack, the patient exhibited hematochezia, in spite of continuous prednisolone treatment. Capsule endoscopy showed fresh blood spurting from the mid-to-distal jejunum, in the absence of any mass or ulcer. This hematochezia rapidly disappeared following a high-dose steroid injection, suggesting it was a manifestation of jejunal eosinophilic enteritis.

Intestinal Obstruction by Capsule Endoscopy in a Patient With Radiation Enteritis

BACKGROUND Video capsule endoscopy is in widespread use as a diagnostic modality. Although capsule endoscopy is generally considered safe, several prior reports have documented capsules' failure to progress through narrowed areas of intestine. Symptomatic retention and obstruction by capsule endoscopy have not yet been reported in the setting of radiation enteritis. METHODS We report a case o...

An Unusual Case of Obscure Gastrointestinal Bleeding in a Patient with Coeliac Disease

This paper describes the journey of a patient with coeliac disease who presented with overt obscure gastrointestinal bleeding. Upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy did not reveal a source of bleeding, but an abdominal CT scan detected abnormal lymphadenopathy and a wireless capsule endoscopy diagnosed a jejunal tumour, which was surgically removed. Gastrointestinal bleeding is rare in cel...

Obscure gastrointestinal bleeding: a complication of radiation enteritis diagnosed by wireless capsule endoscopy.

Obscure gastrointestinal bleeding is a common disorder and may account for as many as 5% of all gastrointestinal hemorrhages. It is often caused by lesions in the small intestine, which were very complicated to examine prior to the advent of wireless capsule endoscopy. Here we present the case of a 31-year-old woman with obscure gastrointestinal bleeding as a complication of radiation enteritis...

Early experience with double balloon enteroscopy: a leap forward for the gastroenterologist.

INTRODUCTION Double balloon enteroscopy (DBE) is a novel procedure that allows complete visualisation, biopsy and treatment of small intestinal disorders. We describe our early experience with the use of DBE, evaluating the indications, diagnostic rates and complications. A secondary aim of the study was to compare the findings from DBE with wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE). METHODS Retrospec...
